The Automatics played clubs, weddings, and special events all around the South Sound area. The original members were Mary and I, Gregg and Tom Tarpley, Rob Green who were from the McCord Air Force Jazz Band. That band was tight as a band could be and it was great to play in. This was the final band and various members that I played with in the early to mid 80's. We played a couple of different clubs, letting some of the other Air Force jazz band guys play with us and it was a blast. It was kind of like hopping on a rocket and holding on. I still see some of those guys once in a while. The Automatic over a period of 4 or 5 years and changed names a couple of times, with all of the players untill I finally started calling it Mary and Unaimit. We played steadily but changed players frequently. At the end of this effort I started running sound for the next 5 years.
I had a building and called it the Studio, renting sound equipment and managing bands. Some of them were The Attitude (5 Four You), a great band, plus a lot of others ending in the early 90s with the Jagged Edge.
The crack heads overwhelmed the business so I quit and started studying my bible. That brought me to some pretty cool players again and I've been playing with those people every since. We are playing now as the Pleasant Heads. Music is fun again and we still love to do it.
