Comments: I was just looking through web sights and stumbled across this one. With Tiny Tony and the Rock n Roll Jones. It brought back such memories for me to see this, and see my father looking so young, and with so much hair. I remember the band rehearsing at my house, as well as Bob Horn's and I vaguely remember being at Tiny Tony's once. Granted I was only 9 at the time, and it was nearly 20 years ago, so the memory is a bit faded, but still warm.

Comments: This site has become a lot better than the last time I looked at it... Congratulations on a fine job! I grew up listening in Seattle and was heavily into listening to NW bands from the time I was ~5 (I have a 7 years older sister who used to listen to R&B when our dad wasn't around), until I left there in 1976. I remember being confused by a lot of the covers that white singers did (esp. Pat Boone's covers of Little Richard - yeccch!) because I had heard the originals. My buds and I used to go to all the other high school dances before we could drive, just because they had live bands in the early 60s. I remember that a lot of them were held at the auditorium (gym?) at Green Lake. The word would travel like wildfire whenever a local band was going to perform. I also remember the great street dance that the Sonics did at the UofW circa the mid 60s. Then things exploded about 1966-67 with lots of "acid" bands from all over the U.S. coming in for gigs. You could usually see them on the "Ave" driving their psychedelically painted vans: the Seeds, Grateful Dead, etc. I remember drinking white wine out of a watermelon when the Dead did a free concert at Golden Gardens; the Sky River festivals; just about every well-known band in the world - from Ike & Tina, to the Doors, to who can remember them all performing for hours and hours and hours out at Gold Creek Park in (when) 1969? God, it was great to be young, and alive, and into music, and stoned!Thanks for bringing back all of those great memories. Now if someone would only put together a great box set compilation of all the best of the Northwest Sound from the late 50s to the mid 60s. The Regents (of course), Tiny Tony & the Counts, the Sonics, Jimmy Hanna and the Dynamics (gawd I'd love to hear their version of "Leaving Here" again!), the Wailers, and on and on.
I'd be ecstatic to hear from any ot the people I knew during those times that see this (overly long) note... especially Sally. (Remember what a dud the piano drop was at first Sky River festival?

Comments: Great website. I love the sound clips. I love NW rock. I grew up in Olympia and my stepdad used to always talk about seing the Sonics and the Wailers at the Evergreen Ballroom. I was wondering where that song "Comin Home" came from. Reason I ask, is that the pioneer ska band the Skatalites (from Jamaica, early sixties) has a song called Christine Keeler that sounds exactly the same. Any ideas on how both songs sound so similiar? Just curious if there's any connection.

Comments: This Band is NOT the Shades. This band played at Tommy Chong's club The Elegant Parlour. The Real Shades were called Laverne Gerrard and the Shades. Laverne Gerrard is Donny Gerrard's older brother. Donny Gerrard sang with BJ Cook on the song Wildflower. Ron Kawamoto I believe was guitar player in the Shades as well. They played a lot at the Capital Hill Community Center in Burnaby in the early 60's.The Club called T's cabaret on Pender Street in Vancouver, as well in the early 60's was Tommy Melton's Club. He sang with Tommy Chong, Floyd & Bernie Sneed. Roslyn Keene also sang with Tommy Melton. I hope I have been of some help.

Comments: I was reading about the dancehalls, and I saw the Egress. I went to the Egress several times in 1973. It was in Vancouver near the old bus depot at Georgia and Beatty (check spelling please) We saw Goose Creek Symphony, and Blues. My friends and I got to talk freely with Howlin'Wolf, and Bo Diddley(spelling) One night I wanted to see Muddy Waters, but I had the night. For young blues players, it was perfect..

Comments: When I was a little girl, my mom was friends with Wheatfield. Some of the guys used to sometimes stay at our house. She would ALWAYS go see them every time they were in town, every night. She didn't even miss a night when she had mono (but she didn't know she had it then). I used to love to watch her dance and the guys were always really nice to me. I hear they might be performing again and now I'm old enough to go see them! I've waited just about my entire life for this! We still listen to their album and the 45s they put out. I love the happiness they brought her then and I love the happiness it's always brought her.
I can't wait to see them again!!!

Played with several groups starting with the Soulmasters in the late 60's,later changed the name to Pleasure, 7albums on Fantasy Records. In 1980, started a group called Cool'r, signed to A&M Records, made one record, disbanned in 1990, moved to LA. I miss the NW and it's music scene still to this day.
