Comments: This whole project was a mind-blower for me. Didn't think anyone cared about the NW music scene in the 50s-70s other than the now old guys and girls who played in the bands.  I was amazed to see my old band, The Stingrays, was included in the pages. And I was impressed with the response when I forwards some photos and information.  I couldn't believe the photos were posted so quickly. I sent them in the wee hours of the morning and there they were on the page before noon.
When do you sleep?

Music's a great bag - and regardless of what your preference is, all musicians share the same love for making NOISE! For Sam, Dave, Bill, Dick and me, it was good time NorthWest Rock - and I'm still partial to it. Keep those cards and letters coming, folks. And for Sam What Am, I'll get my bio done for you - - - someday.

Comments: A nice site. But you should include more groups from Idaho, which after all is part of the Northwest. Idaho in the '60s was the home of Paul Revere and the Raiders, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Dick Cates and the Chessmen, the Statesman, the Fabulous Chancellors, the Mystics, the Quirks and some other good groups. It would be nice to see them on your site. I just sent some information on the Mystics, of which I was an original member. --Tim Woodward

There are a number of '70s bands that should be on your website such as: Epicentre, Big Horn, The New Deal Rythmn Band, Cheesburger Deluxe, Child, Kid Afrika, Lance Romance and The Dynamic Logs. I'm sure I could think of more given some time, but these came to mind immediatley.
Great job!

Comments: Great Site! I'll have to contribute some stuff. My brother (Robin Gudgel) was the drummer with the Towne Cryers in the 60s with David Lanz-keyboards, Ken Davis-guitar, Vic Stewart-vocals, and, Mark Robinson (deceased)-bass.  I also did sound and took lots of pix for Clear Logic, a band I went to high school with. David Reeves-drums, Ken Husted-guitar, Ron Peyser-bass (deceased), John Birdlebough-keys, Bill Davenport-sax, Paul Jacobson-vocal...  A couple others in C.L. were, George Marshall-guitar, Joe Cox (Mike Cox' brother [deceased])-bass, Doug Hamilton-sax and more I can't remember off the top of my head now.
Keep up the great site!

Best wishes,

(P.S.: Speaking of NW Rock, I heard from Jerry Dennon (which is an honor in itself!) concerning the Springfield Rifle. Jerden will be issuing a definitive Springfield Rifle Collection CD sometime in the next 6 to 9 months. In addition, they'll be featured on a couple of tracks on the upcoming History of Northwest Rock Vol. III CD, due to be released in the next two months.)

Comments: Wow, this site sure brings back memories! What a wonderful, delightful little trip down memory lane! And to be able to see all the old pix; I especially enjoy the ones from the late 60's, when bands such as the City Zu (by far, my favorite back then!), Merilee and the Turnabouts and the Fragile Lime were such a big part of Northwest rock. These even brought to mind the old "Teen Fairs" at the Seattle Center, something I haven't thought about in (gulp!) about a quarter century (has it really been that long?) Ahhh, the carefree days of hippies and teeny-boppers, flowers and love, cheap gasoline and no traffic (I won't mention the negatives).

To everyone who put this together, thanks. And if anyone out there knows how to get in touch with either Jerry (Matheson) Zu or Brad Miller, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you!

Since 1976 I have been playing and recording with Latin-Jazz band OBRADOR. In 1998 we toured Cuba, return visit in 1999 and will tour again in October 2000 with gigs in New York along the way. All of my musical background in the Northwest and in the SF Bay Area are well chronicled in the Obrador web site. (which merilee rush and her first husband were with), The Frantics, Those were good times, I remember many a night at Parkers, Lakehills, Spanish Castle, and of course all the highschool gigs. I started my musical career in 1968 at 17 years old at Ron Pierces "The Vault" 2nd and Union downtown Seattle. I was good till Arthritis got the best of me. Talked with Bill englehart on the phone about his times with the Bluenotes. Music sure took a twist after the 60's.

Comments: Hey! I guess that Sammy qualifies as a friend! I just wanted to say hello to everyone who takes the time to check check out our guestbook. Playing for the Regents was one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of my life. Encourage your kids to play music. There are many bad things in the music environment, but none of them is the music. Music is an expression of the heart. I could not live without it.
The best to you all, and thanks, Sammy, for finding me after all these years.

Comments: Thanks for signing the guestbook, Steve. Just wanted to thank you for your comments and answer your questions. Yes, we did play Perls in Bremerton. It used to be a very nice place, but sadly it now appears to be a truck junk yard. Yes, we know of the Bards too. They are mentioned in our "Who Played Tacoma" pages. When we get some more research done, I hope to fill out and expand those pages, including more information on the local bands from our era. Sammy

Comments: Sam, I just read your review of "Encyclopedia of Northwest Music" by James Bush. Great Review! Did you ever play at "Perl's" in Bremerton? I've had the pleasure of seeing and hearing most of the bands listed on your web page. I believe there was another band out of Tacoma called "The Bards" thier claim to fame is the song "Never To Much Love". Keep up the good work.
