The Beanhaulers
aka:  The Rebels
Nanaimo, British Columbia
1965 - 1967

Members

Pat Carpenter ~ Guitar
John Gorosh ~ Saxophone, Vocals
Jack Isaacs ~ Drums
Clayton Millan ~ Bass
Randy Millan ~ Guitar

The thing I remember about this band was building my own sound equipment from scratch!  We played up and down the island.

Pat Carpenter is a professor of Music and Music Composition at Malaspina University College in Nanaimo.  John runs a business in Nanaimo. I haven't seen Jack Isaacs for a long time.

My brother Clayton Millan went on to play with a group called Lemon in Vancouver and now works for the Transit system in Nanaimo, and he said he had spoken to Jack a number of years back.

Myself Randy Millan went on to play with another Island band (can't remember the name now) and then became a school teacher in the Okanagan teaching Music and core courses.

I still live in the Okanagan after going across Canada and living in Newfoundland for six years.

Update...Jack has been found.  He works in sales in Port Alberni and is doing just fine.

In 1966, in the beginning, we actually went by the name "The Rebels" briefly until we found our neat new name - don't ask!  We used to practise in John's parents basement.  It was the perfect "garage band" practise location
.
I found an old set list.  Some of the songs we performed include: Blues Magoos - We ain't Got Nothin Yet Nero and the Gladiators - The Hall of the Mountain King.  There were lots of Paul Revere and the Raiders, Sam Cooke - Shake Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs - Little Red Riding Hood, Ring Dang Doo and
Wooly Bully.  There were also lots of the Animals and Beatles.  Otheres were:

The Box Tops - the Letter
British groups - Dave Clark Five, Kinks, Stones, The Who, The Yardbirds,
Hermans Hermits and others
The Guess Who - Shakin All Over
The Kingsmen - Louie Louie
The Outsiders - Time Won't Let Me
The Sonics - Psycho, The Witch
The Turtles - It Ain't Me Babe, Happy Together
The Ventures - Walk Don't Run, Wipeout
The Wailers - Night Train, Tall Cool One
The Woolies - Who Do You Love?
Them - Baby Please Don't Go, Gloria
... and groups like The Young Rascals, Spencer Davis, Wilson Picket,  among others.
