The Continentals, put together by Bill Artman and Jay Violette, was, I believe, the first rock band to be formed north of Spokane.  We were inspired by three bands: The Wailers, The Rockers and The Mark 5.

Ned Neltner (Mark 5) and Tom Stewart (The Rockers), helped Bill Artman out on the guitar and helped us break into the Spokane music scene.  We played for high school and college dances, and "frat" parties throughout the Inland Northwest. The band broke up in Sept. of '65 when Jay was drafted into the Army and went to Viet Nam,  Dennis went to College in Oregon,  and Bob Tshilar went back to is home town of Phoenix Az.  The band re-formed within one month as "The In Crowd".
