Jim Westby

I joined this band in early 1964.  What a wild and wonderful time to be in a rock band.  Jim and Eddy Westby had the band the Del Rays. Jim did all the booking and money details.  Eddy played lead guitar, Jim did most of the vocals and played tenor saxophone.  Jim was also the lead mechanic.

The 1955 Cadallic Hearst was a blast to ride around in and was very confortable.  Early in 1964 Jim fell in with Pat Mason.  Pat did a lot of the bookings in the NW and also ran the Cascade Club in Springfield.   We actually cut a single there once.  Pat put us on a rotation with The Wailers, Paul Revere, and the Kingsmen.  So we would play on the off weeks and have great crowds.  The Del Rays played and traveled all over Oregon SW Washington, and a few times to Cal.  We played most of the usual haunts, Cascade Club, D Street Coral, MU Ballroom, Gill Colusiun, County Fairs, Cotton Club, Paramount Theater, and so many other places.

The Del Rays was the name of the group before they became Paul Bearer and the Hearsemen.
