Comments: Keith Morris (Hammond organ) and Mike Rust (drums) had a duo called Fast Company. We started playing together in 1969 and stayed together untill March of 1977. Keith is retired from Boeing and Mike is retired and living in Chehalis. Mike still works occasionally doing vocals. Keith plays for his own enjoyment at home.

It came back undeliverable the first time, but haven't seen it returned lately!   We went to an informal gathering for Rich Dangel of the Wailors who passed away recently and there were probably a few faces you would recognize.  Next party will probably be the Wailors' New Year party in Tacoma.  Please let me know what you think of the book.

Comments: This is like stepping back in time. My band, "Doug Robertson & the GoodGuys", existed for 3 years, and put all of us through college. Recording for Jerry Dennon was great fun. Our biggest sellers, however, were "Sweets for My Sweet", "Desiree", & "Love You So".
Since '92, our high school band, "The Bandits", has been playing, with the orginal members ('58-'61) in the Spokane area.

Press Release – December 3, 2002 From : The Fabulous Wailers, Kent Morrill, Buck Ormsby ….and more            Richard Dangel
It is with profound regret that this message is one of deep sadness. Richard Dangel, our great and wonderful friend, sensational person, and one of the greatest guitar players in the world passed away unexpectedly. He was discovered in his north Seattle home by his close friend Charlotte on Tuesday evening after failing to answer his phone and door. Richard celebrated his 60th birthday Sunday December 1, at the Swiss Club in Tacoma, Washington, performing with his Butter Bean band with members Michael Kinder and Buck Englund. Several musician friends attended the event to jam with Rich and wish him a happy birthday. The group was in top form that night, with Rich playing as amazingly as always, and as
great as we have ever heard him. He will not only be sorely missed by his enormous family of musician friends, but by the world of music, his fans, and so many who have been entertained, inspired, and have learned so much from this wonderfully talented man.

Kent Morrill and I feel blessed to have had Richard as our long and devoted friend. Luckily we jammed with Rich and the boys on his birthday. It’s been a long run, and always an honor to perform with Rich as a fellow fabulous Wailer. We are fortunate to have so many fond memories of Richard and his impressive contribution to the world of music, whether it was jazz, blues, rock n roll, funk, Rich knew it, well. He had so much more to offer. Rest in peace now Richard. We all love you.

Comments: The Al Neil Trio, of which I was the drummer and sound collagist from 1965-70, was the pioneering free jazz group of that era in Canada. It had a large following in Vancouver, putting on weekend concerts at the Sound Gallery, Motion Studio, Intermedia, the Vancouver Art Gallery, SFU, UBC and across Canada to Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary.

In 1966 the trio played the Trips Festival in the PNE Garden Auditorium where they opened for the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Janis Joplin, who had just joined Big Brother and the Holding Co. The trio had a singular relationship to the rock bands of the era through a similar desire to do mixed media concerts, which later became the commercial light show. As a visual artist I worked in the Pender Auditorium Afterthought concerts with Sam Perry and WECO, his experimental projection group, conceived before the term light shows was used.

The trio has a double CD with 36 page booklet released in 2002 by the bassist of the trio, Richard Anstey on his Blue Minor records, available at www.blueminor-records.com

Comments: I found this site because I had been searching for info on a musician I knew in the 80's. Solo act. Scott MacGougan. Saw his name listed on a Rick Steves show and thought it would be fun to try to find out if he's still around. Didn't find him, but had a hoot looking through the list of all the bands I've known through the 70's, 80's and 90's.  What happened to Dan Reed Network, Shots, Boy Toy, Zero D'Zero and Shock? Didn't see them listed. They were big at Pier 70, Parkers, Meekers and Montanas in the 80s. Clubs that don't exist anymore or have radically changed.
Thanks for putting up this site. It is nice to be able to click on these band's names, read their history, what they might be up to today, and remember the " good old days " in Seattle and in Portland Oregon!
Trisha

Comments: i had lots of bands. The first under the name Alexys in 1966 and did the Coliseum(now Key Arena) with the Beach Boys , Sly and the family Stone, and a bunch of others. Other bands later on were: Peece, The Iris Hill band, Freefall. I performed at Dimetrio's first club called the Pioneer Banque, in Pioneer Square, under the name of Cookie Irene. I've as of the last three years been going to Europe (mostly France) in the summers and working at festivals over there. Great fun. I'm looking to hookup with some players around here for something fun. Vintage R&B is what they want overseas, but I've been recording Tangos , Bossa nova, samba etc., and gypsy type stuff with a bit of jazz for the last 6 or so years.

I am the Rod Garrity that is listed as playing a guitar player for the group.  Just as a point of info the correct spelling for my name is Rod Geraghty.
Also the correct spelling for Jim Spano is Jim Spanos.  Jim is now deceased.  The band evolved over several years and to the best of my knowledge what you have listed is correct.  How did you get all that history on the band?It is amazing what you have been able to compile.
The original four in the band were Randy Bennett,Dave Erickson,Jim Spanos and myself.  Do you have any idea where I could locate Randy or Dave?
Thank you, Rod Geraghty

Booking rock bands from 1968 - 1970 ." to see some of my old posters, contracts, etc.  I owned and managed the dances at the Hippadrome in Federal Way in the 60's. We actually held dance/concerts at the Federal Way Skate Center and Hippadrome, Touray and Santafair all of which were on the same property. I still have some posters, contracts, and other stuff from that time. I was referred to this web site by Terry Gregg who used to play with Merilee Rush and the turnabouts.

They played at the old D&D Roller Rink in Wenatchee and Billy and the Kids opened for them. The Burns boys Dad (Jolly Ollie) was the local booker and did alot of shows in the Central WA area. I worked as a bouncer for him during my High School Years (69/71) and remember Merrilee Rush playing at the old Columbian Hotel Which as since burnt down and is now a park. The last time I saw her she was in Augusta Georgia playing at a club. I was in the Army and some other GIs from Washington and I went to see her. When she found out we were from Washington she joined us for a drink during a break. It was a great night.

Comments: Hey you have calculated risk listed in the 80's... the best players that were in the band were Jim Davis on Guitar and Peter Atwood on drums as well as Eric Turner. Gary Townsend could only play three cords and the other member that were listed didn't play in 1988-1996... I know I was married to one of the musicians and have all their memoribilia in Seattle. they were a house band that was ran by a Gary... You need tro find An American Band also known as Blue Frost out of Lynden 1970's band and Paragon from Boise in the 80's. Keep rocking.

Comments: I was the Fragile Lime's original drummer and was with them until I was drafted in April 1969. I have seen Mark Gallagher a few times over the years. Last I knew he was living in California and working as a cable TV installer while still playing an occasional gig with various groups. Tim Lee (organist) went on to work with the Righteous Brothers for many years untill they retired. Howard Wiebe (guitar) committed suicide in the early seventies. Bob Brannon (bass) is currently living in Arizona and I think he's selling insurance.
I have many very early photographs of the group as well as some of the early records.

Comments: I think Nick Ogilvie, the guitarist from Ph Phactor Jug Band, is about the most musical person I have ever played with. His knowledge of music history and songs is outstanding!!
He is a walking encyclopedia of musicology!! Also, Steve Mork is a talented jug player and very humble, kind person. It has been a pleasure to know and play with both of them. And, my cat likes them too.

Comments: From 1969 through its demise, I was in the Trolly aka Peppermint Trolly where I played bass and sang. Prior to that and until 1975, I was in other groups. The Lazers prior, and a couple groups after like Fat and Sassy, and Good Stuff. Fat and Sassy included Barry Puhlman (who died in 1982 while playing with Buddy Miles) on B-3, and Freddy Salem who went on to play with The Outlaws. Good Stuff included Bob Nixon on keyboards who directed music later at Bellevue Community College, and Rich Dangle of the Wailers on guitar.  From the Trolly was Mike Langdon who is still teaching and playing guitar, and Ricky Johnson super drummer/vocals who went on to Epicenter, Burgundy Express, etc.   After 1975, I worked as a single and duo with my wife until going back to school in 1978 and on to engineering in a well know airplane company where I still spend my days as a Chief Engineer.   Really miss the old days at Parkers, Lake Hills, Pearl's in Bremerton, Tiffany's here and in Spokane, and numerous colleges and fairs.

Comments: Hi- I worked as the doorman at the Pipeline Tavern 1974-1975. Enjoyed see photos of Shyanne, Thin Red Line, Mick Flynn, Ron Gardner Group, and of course, Jr. Cadillac. The local bands played some real kickass rock and roll, while the rest of the country was going Disco-oh oh! Thought of another band Mountain Heath which rocked out with some solid guitars. Also I remember Rick Randle, but don't know who he played with. Oh, yeah and the flashy Ze Wiz Kids, and Sluggo.  Before the club went into the big time blues circuit John Lee Hooker et al, the local NW bands just packed the place and rocked on. This was a great find while doing some work here in NYC. Thanks.

They'd be listed alphabetically as individuals. Then we rock scholars could know that, for example, "Eben Lewis was in The Renegades, then in The Living End, then in The Orange Amoeba, then in Tulip Garden, then in Sounds Clear, then in Bar Stool, then in..." by clicking on Eben Lewis.  I'm sure that most of the other visitors also miss seeing any new input here. Now that I'm older, I just thought it would be fun to see them play again. Thanks, Jan

They were the consumate soul/ funk/ rhythm & blues/ jazz band of their time and it was a pleasure being around in their time of magic, God Bless them all.  Maybe we should do a reunion now that their music is back in style.

I came to the U.S. in 1975 and have been searching to find some more of her music, not just "Angel of the Morning". Can anyone help me find more of her music?

Comments: Louise Louise from Olalla sent me. And sends her regards, you owe her 40 years royalties. I think I have your PA amplifier, looks like one of my Bell's, but I had a much cooler Fender Jaguar. On the other hand your band had gigs and mine really never did, Bainbridge not being a very well paying place for garage bands, then and now.

I got the impression that Pop was a local hustler/scrambler, especially after the week after, he had to explain away the knifing from the previous week.

Local bands I remember (long time ago): Viceroys, Del Gatos, Intricates, Playboys, Merilee [Rush] and Her Men, Angels, Tiny Tony, Sonics, Little Bill and the Bluenotes, Ron Holden, Adventurers, numerous others.

Comments: John Hendricks also played a great deal of guitar, especially rag time with the band. Later on when we went electric and rock and roll he played lead guitar. Paul Bassett was really the drummer for only a short period, he was mostly one of the greatest washboard players I ever heard, still is. The drums, once we added them were played by Dennis Long from Seattle.

Comments: DOES ANYBODY OUT THERE REMEMBER A NORTHWEST ROCK GROUP-"THE ROTATIONS"(aka ROTATION)?THIS GROUP WAS ORIGINALLY FROM MONTANA,THEN MOVED TO SPOKANE,WA.AROUND 1966. THEY RELEASED AT LEAST ONE 45 RPM-"ONE WAY ROAD" b/w "I CAN SEE A LIGHT" MY 0263.KEITH KNUDSVIG AND WAYNE HELLER MAY HAVE BEEN MEMBERS AS THEY ARE LISTED AS THE SONGWRITERS ON THE RECORD.ALSO IT APPEARS PAUL HANDLER WHO PRODUCED THIS RECORD,MAY HAVE BEEN THEIR MANAGER. HANDLER ALSO MANAGED "THE LIVERPOOL FIVE" WHO WERE BASED IN SPOKANE AT THAT TIME.THE ROTATIONS PLAYED AT THE 1967 TEEN FAIR IN SEATTLE AND ALSO AT THE A-GO GO CLUB IN SEATTLE.IT APPEARS THAT THEIR NAME AROSE FROM THE FACT THAT THEY ALL ROTATED ON THEIR INSTRUMENTS.THEY COULD GO FROM "LOUIE LOUIE" TO A TIJUANA BRASS SONG VERY QUICKLY DURING THEIR SET.THERE ALSO MAY HAVE BEEN SOME BROTHERS IN THIS BAND.IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING "THE ROTATIONS",PLEASE CONTACT MR.SAMMY CARLSON AT HIS WEB SITE. A PICTURE OF "THE ROTATIONS" APPEARS ON HIS NW BAND SITE.THANK YOU.

Comments: "QUEBEC" is newly reformed and re-established after 30 yrs. Almost gig ready and want to work local clubs 2-3 times a month.Looking for KEYBOARD PLAYER to join band now. This is not a hobby band, nor a one night stand..KEYBOARD PLAYER must be willing to make a commitment for a Classic Rock Band project, that's going to be long term and last for quite awhile. Playing good dance cover songs from 60's/70's/80's and beyond. We have lead singer;bass;lead guitar;drums;congas;timbales and backup vocals already covered. This is a great group of guys who are willing to work hard with KEYBOARD PLAYER. Want to round out the quality of sound. Looking for KEYBOARD PLAYER (male or female) who is willing to actually work and be dependable. Would like to find a middle age musician, someone who has time to play. Rehearsals are (once a week) and held at South Hill/Puyallup area. If you are a little rusty, that's fine and we'll work around it. There has to be a KEYBOARD PLAYER out there, possibly from one of the old northwest bands, who wants to gig with a Classic Rock Band on weekends. Might even be someone who still owns a Hammond & Leslie..wouldn't that be wonderful. Our project is currently well planned and just looking for that special KEYBOARD PLAYER if you're out there. If interested, please send E-Mail or call my residence. Sincerely, Rob Henricksen
(Drummer) (360) 897-8839

P.S. Note for "DAN KING", ex-keyboard of both QUEBEC & CHINOOK. I've been trying to find you buddy. If you read this message, please contact me ASAP.

Comments: You have a great web site! I tried sending this to you in January but am sending it again. I think the information below is pretty accurate - it was a long time ago.

Brutus & The Bullies
1965 - 1967

Tony Tito Guitar/CoFounder
John Kennedy Drums/’Brutus’
George Bryant Sax/Vocals
Roland Brasch Organ/Vocals
Greg DeMers Drums
Hawaiian Guy who played the guitar behind his back
Brian Williams Bass
Rick Wright Guitar
Randy Johnson Guitar
John D’Agostino Drums
Mike Cowles Roadie

Tony Tito and John Kennedy invited George Bryant and Roland Brasch to form a band in the spring of 1965. The band practiced through the summer and then collapsed the afternoon of their first gig in September. Greg Demers, Brian Williams and the Hawaiian Guy were quickly recruited to replace Tony and John and to play the gig - a battle of the bands for the opening of the new Music City store in Burien. Rick Wright soon replaced the Hawaiian Guy and the lineup remained stable until Greg moved back to California. John joined to play drums. Brutus and The Bullies played at dances all around theSouthend throughout 1966. The band recorded a demo at some studio in Tacoma(maybe Audio Recording-I can't remember). There is at least one copy still in existence. The band decided to pack it in during the winter of 1967.

I have some photos that I will send.

I would love to hear from any of these guys.

Comments: UNCLE SAM, greetings. I miss reading from you. How are you, sir?
The Nuggets I Box Set includes 3 of the best from THE SONICS (but not The Hustler, which I still haven't heard in all its boss glory!!!) and OUT OF OUR TREE by THE WAILERS. Needless to say, I've been stomping all over the house.
The drummer on Out Of Our Tree is real good. MR DAVE ROLAND.
Also, Complication by The Monks, and Blackout of Grately by The Gonn, and Voices Green And Purple by The Bees are major earslop wail-outs. Then there's nice tunes like Follow Me and Stop Get A Ticket. Follow Me is by the author of my favorite Turtles song (also included) OUTSIDE CHANCE. How it wasn't a hit is beyond my imagination! I don't know exactly what kind of tunes Warren Zevon did later (maybe one I know, Werewolves of London?) but Outside Chance speaks to me. And of course, so do the major twanging stompers of MR LARRY PARYPA, MR GERRY ROSLIE, MR BOB BENNETT, MR ANDY PARYPA, MR ROB LIND, aka THE SONICS.
I'm still waiting for an e-mail or something (Hey Santa Claus, won't you tell me please, is there something for me inside that sack) from THE PARYPA BROTHERS. Please tell them I say Hi again.

Comments: Just cruisin through your fantastic site and viewing your guestbook - Lots of memories: some good, some sad - all wonderful! - Several northwest universities, equal number of jobs, two husbands and 3 kids later I can truthfully say those were the happiest days of my life - I especially recall the Wailers, Regents, Merilee, Galaxies, Sonics, Toggeries and Prince Paul and the Serfs - The first four were the greatest! - Prince Paul & Serfs were the most fun (and good looking too) - This guy Bill, ryth. guitar, seems an interesting character - a real renaissance type ("kicking back in Thailand"?) - Anyway, thanks for the trip down the lane Sam and now I know where to go to visit all my old friends.

Comments: I owned and managed the dances at the Hippadrome in Federal Way in the 60's. We actually held dance/concerts at the Federal Way Skate Center and Hippadrome both of which were on the same property. I still have some posters, contracts, and other stuff from that time. I was referred to this web site by Terry Gregg who used to play with Merilee Rush and the turnabouts.

Comments: Good morning! I am positively delighted and excited to read about the history of my Dolton (Mint Condition) "Werewolf" and flip "No Werewolf". Bonnie Guitar is also an incredible favorite of mine and to learn of the connection and history here is just simply unbelievable to some folks here on the East Coast! Also the data on the Ventures. I recognize several of the other groups also as I have many of their 45s.

I knew there had to be some connection between the artists on Dolton, as the Ventures recorded their version of "Werewolf" on the "Ventures In Space" LP. I think it is entitled "Vampyre/Vampire?"

Of course you folks know all of this, however it is such a pleasure gleaning all of this wonderful history from the folks whose music we copied in the late 50s and 60s. Thanks for such wonderful, wonderful memories and God Bless all of you folks!

and I managed them as well and they were the favorite band when ever they played at UBC campus ..P.S. They competed with Bruce Allan's band named ? I remember one time when we did a parade down Granville and Georgia Street where I rented a flat bed truck and put the Band “Long Time Comin” on the flat bed and hooked up, probably one of the first DC converter to Ac power so that the boys could plug in and play with full power like at a concert or dance only this time LIVE on a flat bed truck in the middle of down town Vancouver,.. wow what a blast!

Comments: Sammy,  My brother has been in the music business for close to 30 years. He plays drums. His name is Jody Kennard and has played with various bands in Tacoma. He played with Jonahs Wales for about 3 years. He now is in a band called 'Rio' and has Michael Stubblefield on bass in the band. They are GOOOOD!!! Michael Stubblefield was formally the bass player for JW. Anyway, Jody was with another band back in the 80's that I noticed isn't at this site. I feel they deserve to be here cause they were there rockin' our socks off for quite a few years. They were called, 'Kicker'. Also, Michael Stubblefield has a lot of pics and memorabilia that you would probably be interested in. I'll get hold of him and see what I can do or should I say, what I can get. Also, there was the 'Amvets Hall' that we use to shake our booty's at. Great dance hall.  Do you remember Mark Maruse from the Wailers? I am interested in talking to him. If anyone knows how I might get hold of him please let me know. I can be reached at my e-mail and/or Moby Grape club at yahoo.  Thanks and Sammy, thanks so much for this place. It is so much fun and I want you to know that I check it out everyday.  Keep The Faith,
Debra Kennard
