Saturday, August 25, 2007 - Moscow Idaho, Pullman Washington Daily News William C. "Bill" Bolick, 62, of Pullman passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at his Pullman home.
Bill was born Dec. 4, 1944, in Walla Walla, Wash., to Virginia and Jerry Bolick. Bill's family moved to Pullman, shortly thereafter, where they became lifelong residents and active community members.
Bill met his future wife, Mardi Hinshaw, in Spokane, and they married Aug. 5, 1965. Bill was a 1960s rock and roll musician who played with some of the premier northwest bands in Spokane and Seattle. In 1972, Bill and his young family, returned to Pullman, when his beloved son, Jerome, started first grade.
Bill subsequently attended WSU and graduated in 1980 with an education degree in music and an elementary endorsement. During his college years, Bill received two Phi Beta Kappa scholarships and was awarded his degree with highest honors. Bill was privileged to teach music in the Colton School District for 21 years. He often remarked that his proudest achievement was the positive influence he had on local students.
Bill was not comfortable talking about personal recognition but, during his successful career, he received some of the most notable awards in state education including the Christa Cliff Award given by the governor of Washington state for excellence in teaching (1988); the Music Educators of Washington State, Teacher of the Year Award (1992); and the Colton School District, Teacher of the Year Award (1994-1995).
Bill retired from the Colton School District in 2001. His retirement years were filled with his continued love of music through his restoration of vintage drum sets and his Internet interests.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mardi; his daughter, Joann Fenton; his older brother, Jim; his younger sister (younger by 1 year, 6 days, 3 hours and 32 minutes), Irene Braillard and her husband, Dan; three grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Jerry; his beloved son, Jerome and his brother-in-law, Glenn Morrison.
A memorial reception for all of Bill and Mardis' many friends and family will be held Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007; from 4-6 p.m., at the Hawthorne Inn & Suites in Pullman, Wash. Kimball Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Remembrances can be made to the M.S. Society of Washington, in loving memory of Jerome Caroll Bolick.
We wish to dedicate this tribute, to Bill's lifelong Musical inspiration, Bobby "Blue" Bland. Bill - in loving memory August 22, 2007 "The day the music died."
