Formed by Fred Davie 1980 in Tacoma.  Fred was also a founding member of Missouri Freeze with Terry Bailey. The original South Prairie members were Fred Davie, Gary, and Jim Fuller. Through the years other members were Jeff Phillips, Tommy McCauley and Fred.  Playing mostly at the cloud nine tavern, South Prairie had a loyal following and even put out a 45 record of original tunes. Fred and Jeff went on to open Backstage Video in 1985 and continue to be partners to this day.

Fred went on to play in Dakota with the late great Evan Groom on guitar, Big Steve Bilyeau on drums and Ron on vocals and guitar. Jeff played in the Jerry Travis Band mostly on the road until Jeff and Fred opened Backstage Video in 1985.  Jeff now plays in a group called Basket Case with Jeff Meek on drums, Dave G. bass and Jon Clowers on lead. Tommy is back in Southern California.
