Comments: Hello! My father and mother met at the Evergreen Ballroom in approximately 1942 just before he went in the Army.
My father was at the Evergreen Ballroom with his buddy from Aberdeen and they saw two beautiful girls from Centralia on the other side of the Ballroom. My father, Austin Aronson, had never met these girls before. He told his friend, I'm going to marry that girl (Lillian Johnson). Well, the rest is history, for they did get married not much later. My dad was drafted a week before their wedding was scheduled and my mom's father Albin Johnson, was killed in a Coal mine in Ford's prairie four days before the wedding was scheduled. They ended up marrying when dad could get a three day pass after basic training since he was drafted a week before the wedding and the Army quarantined him right after his physical and drafting. It was a blessing that he was assigned to Fort Lewis after his basic training!

fond memories still remain and a piece of Vancouver's history died with the closing and tear down of this club. Funny how memories can make you sit back and look at life and just how fast it passes by.

Comments: Anybody remember the hydroplane races in the Tri-Cities? The Barney Armstrong Machine played at the Cosmos all week before the race. I couldn't believe Barney was talented and intelligent too. He was the only band member I ever went out with. Smart and sexy too what a combo. i would love to know how he's doing and if I would recognize him. Does anyone out there know anything about him? He said I looked like Lu Lu.

Comments: Have seen the redcoats several times. mainly the wooden shoe,crystal ball room and oregon city and other places i dont recall. the one show that sticks most with me was the teen fair. our band the stags had just played at the sun booth. the redcoats played shortly after on one of the main stages and did a great version of dancing in the streets. has stuck with me all these years

Comments: My grandfather Willard (Bill) Dziuk owned and operated the Target Ballroom in Burien, Wa. I've got a number of 16mm and 8mm films of the old bands; Sonics, Merilee Rush, The Wailers, Sonny and Cher, The Regents etc. I saw the cancelled check from Sonny and Cher about a year ago 10/2010 when Grandma Dziuk passed away. I was 3 & 4 years old during the Target days. Memories of the candy stand in the lanes is all I have. :-) ...Cheers!

Comments: My father owned the Mad Dolphin in the 1970s along with his brother. They had no idea what they were doing, and later found out that the staff was stealing the booze and the manager was pimping out the waitresses. Hard to believe that last one was true. But as a high schooler, it was fun for my friends and I to go there. I remember seeing Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee there.

Comments: Please add The Virgin Souls folk-rock band from Bothell, Washington that was together from 1965-67. All were members of Bothell High School and played in the Seattle-Tacoma area. They established their own teenage nightclub in downtown Bothell called The Cage in 1966 (I have an original poster, plus newspaper articles as proof). Original members were: Bill Erdelyi, lead vocals and rhythm guitar; Bob Hover, lead guitar; Ken Payton, bass and Kim Imper, drums. Their roadie was Carl Hedrick.

Comments: I am 64 yrs. young.....Wheatfield was my very favorite group back in the day. One day they just disappeared. I went to every get together there was around the Portland and Vancouver area.
Summer wasn't summer without Wheatfield.I cannot believe I have found you again. I am still a fan and I will bring as many friends as I can to see you when are nearby. I have talked about you for YEARS. Remember Wheatfield? They were such a crowd pleasing band. Wish we had more of that today!!! Talk about Dumb Luck!! I am so happpppy. Comments: Hi Jeff, It's Dave your former go-to-guy at the ole Backstage near the Tacoma Mall ('98-00). Just cruisin' the web & thought of my Backstage days. I decided to see if you or Fred came up on Google. Sure enough, your old band history came up so thought I'd say hi! I visit/rent every once in a while at the B'stage in Proctor (I'm heavily resisting Redbox-Netflix-On Demand). So sad the independent Mom & Pop shops are all but over (B'stage, Stadium & Scarecrow Seattle are about it). I guess we were lucky to enjoy it as long as the era lasted (Laser Discs, VHS & DVD onset in '98). I always enjoyed the fact we featured lots of independents, docus, cults & the like & bought at least 1-2 copies for rent).

I remember you & your family going to the final Kingdome Mariners game & in Jan. '00 I went to the final Kingdome Seahawks game (an AFC Wildcard loss to Miami), which was Dan Marino's final victory in the NFL as the Dolphins were blown out the following week.

I know the both of us have bled Dodger Blue many times in our lifetime, yet I honestly can't say I follow the Dodgers like I CERTAINLY once did in a HUGE CAPACITY as a youth/late teen ('77-88). Of course, these years included 3 World Series vs. the NY Yankees ('77-78-81), the Garvey-Lopes-Russell-Cey 8 1/2 year amazing infield ('74-82), the 4 player/30 HR season of S. Garvey-R. Cey-Dusty Baker-Reggie Smith, 1981's year of Fernando (Cy Young, Rookie of the Year & World Series Champion), including the '81 NLCS clincher Rick Monday home run icer (known as Blue Monday in L. A. & Black Monday in Montreal) & the Gibson (Game 1 walk-off)/Hershiser (scoreless inning record/Cy Young) '88 Dodger upset of Oakland (3 straight W. Series & only 1 victory).

Did you happen to catch the Fernando Nation & Fernandomania specials on ESPN Classic a few years back? They were great & the former includes a memorable clip of Fernando going for his 8th straight win (w/o a loss) against the Expos (at Dodger Stadium). Andre Dawson blasted a homer late but the Dodgers held on. Quite a moment & if you lived in L. A. back then, it must've been THE place to be in '81! I know Jeff you're very much a loyal Dodger since the days of your childhood hero & main man Wally Moon! Hope this finds you well. Best, Dave

Always looped and only have vague memory of what might have been The Stampeders in the Body Shop. But great music no matter how you look at it. Lived in Tacoma back then. Then there was the bar in south Tacoma, The Hi-Hat? Merillee Rush was performing in the men's room one night.

Comments: I played keyboard for a kid band called Terry Lee and the Fathoms in '62-'65, then with the Baron's Blues Band at St. Michael's Alley from '66-'68 in Seattle. For a time, we were the house band. Randy Espeseth on drums and vocals, Bruce Lofgren on guitar and vocals, and I was on the B-3 and vocals. Bruce is still in the music industry and lives in CA. Randy became an accountant and is now in the Real Estate business in S.C. I went on to retire as a Navy Captain, attorney, and real estate broker.

Comments: I went to see Sugarloaf when they played at Perl's... it was in 1975-ish? wow... that was a lifetime ago. I seem to recall that they did not want to play there because Don't Call Us hit the charts and they didn't think they should have to play in a podunk place like that any more.

We are looking for two more band's to donate their time for a cause. All money we get from this event will go to our veteran's, All branches of the military past and current.
Our founder, Anthony McDowell who served with the Navy and the Army suffered from PTSD and that lead to his passing on 1-31-11.  He was shot and killed by the Gresham Police.  This event is also to celebrate what would have been his 51st birthday.

Comments:  I visited the VFW hall today and had a great grilled Ham and cheese sandwich and visited with some VFW veterans. I was in town for the Bear Fest for my first time. I liked the 1940s Quonset Hut building that is in great condition for its age of almost 70 years. It was built to last for many years. I'm a life member of VFW and joined in 1996 here in Belfair, Wash. The VFW post disbanded in 2002 or 2003 and I transferred my life membership to Subic Bay, P.I. post 11447. I was also a former member of VFW post 239 in Bremerton, Wash. I served in the USN from 1968 to 1981 and was a EM-1. I visited Subic Bay, P.I. while on two CVA-64 Vietnam Tonkin Gulf Westpacs 1969/70 and 1971/72. I was also stationed there from 1972 to 1974 at Service Craft Harbor Tugs.

Comments: Back in late summer of '67, my two brothers and I were in a big fight in the parking lot with six guys from Franklin Hi. It was quite a rumble and I remember each of us had to fight two dudes. One of the off duty fireman came out to break up the fight and I remember when he grabbed me from behind I turned around ready to thump him but immediately realized that it was a bouncer and not one of the guys in the fight. He picked me up by the collar. It is a good thing for the Franklin guys that they came out and broke it up. We were kicking ass!!! I grew up going to both Vasa Park and Lake Hills. Marilee Rush was my favorite. She was so HOT back in those days. Does anyone remember line dancing there? Those were the days.

And a piece of a cymbal that broke while the band was on stage at Tiffany's SkateIn, in Spokane Washington. That would have been about 1968. So great seeing the old pictures. I wish the song that you &Epicentre did at the end of the show "Good To You"was on YouTube. That was a stunning outfit that you wore. If only you had a daytime talk/variety show back in the day & you began the show in that outfit you wore while singing "Good To You" on MD, but this time it would be Ellen MacIilwaine's "All to You" that you would be singing & it would sound like the 1987 remake of the 1973 original.

Comments: We first saw Alan a The Frair's Tavern in Toronto back in the early 70's. We were there for my Mom's birthday. I thought Alan was wonderful. I even purchased his 45 record and still have it. My boyfriend, who is now my husband, Mom and myself were sitting next to Dana, who at the time was his fiance, she asked Alan to give my Mom a scarf, as it was her birthday. Mom was thrilled and I still have that scarf. Alan was the very first tribute artist that I had ever heard of, who did the tribute while Elvis was still alive. I've been an Elvis fan since he first appeared on The Stage Show with the Dorsey Bros. I was only a child, but always loved Elvis. Alan was the next best thing to Elvis. Seeing Alan was like watching and hearing Elvis. When Elvis died I thought Alan had disappeared and then all these other so called tribute artist were on the scene trying to be Elvis and IMHO failing miserably. There has only been one IMO that I thought was good and believe it or not he's local, from Milton, Ontario named Steven Kabakos and believe it or not he reminds me more of Alan than Elvis,though he is still quite good. It would be great if Alan came back to Canada so we could enjoy him all over again.

Comments: I was excited to see pictures of the NW band The Pied Pipers. Bill Harrison Key Boards / Piano, my brother in law was in that band 1965 to 1970 or so. They opened for some like Don & the Good Times, Walers, Paul Revere and the Raiders etc. A great story is one night as they were closing out they did Louie Louie. Bill Harrison jumped up on the piano and played LL backwards. The crowd loved it. Sad to say that Bill passed away, way too young at 63 on March 24, 2011 in Arizona. He was a good person, loving husband and father. An all around good man.

Comments: I only knew Herk by association with Butterfat -- he was all that with tremendous gravity and style. I first encountered Butterfat in 1970 at someone's rainy party in Bothell when I was a fresh teenager from San Francisco. I met Herk again at an antique shop I believe he owned where University Ave met Ravenna Park, a few blocks from where I lived. I fell in love with Paul and Cory from afar, but became friends with Ed and Richard "Earthquake."

I later became housemates with Karen in Bellingham after she and Corey had long separated. Bill used to come by often, in love with Karen. Karen and Susan Anderson, my best friend and owner of Sur Lado Taco, moved to NYC in 1976. I stayed with them briefly when they helped me find an apartment while I went to school at the Art Students League.

I lost touch with Karen and Susan after I returned to San Francisco. I'm mostly sad to hear of Karen's passing because it means I won't be able to see her again. She was a sensitive friend and my compassionate link to girlhood groupie fantasies about Butterfat and The Tremors.

Comments: The summer of 1967 (if I remember right). It was the summer just before you started college and I was babysitting for a family in your neighborhood. I believe you saw me in the yard with the children and stopped by in your white (studebaker?) to say hi.
I just wanted to tell you what a pleasure it was to go on my very first date, get my first real kiss and spend a very happy summer going out with you. I don't know if you recall, but our first date began when you picked me up in your dad's red mustang and took me to dinner at your house. I sipped a wine and 7-up drink (you bad guy, feeding alcohol to that prim l little baptist girl lol). You were so happy because you had just bought the latest Beatles album, Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. You sang to me "When we get older, losing our hair, many years from now, will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greeting, bottle of wine?" We listened to it and read all the lyrics on the back of the cover. Those songs became big favorites of mine because I always connected them to you.

You were such a nice guy and a girl could not ask for better or sweeter memories of her 16th summer. You let me come to several band practices and of course my favorite song was "brown eyed girl". I can't hear that song or "gimme a ticket for an air plane" (forgot the title), but anyhow, I think of you and the band when I hear the songs you played.

John, I hope you have had a good life, a happy one and that God has blessed you with love and companions who appreciate you,

We never did actually break up, we just lost track of each other when you began college and my family moved that fall to Portland.

I will be 60 this summer and I do still have brown eyes. I also have a a husband (39 years),
5 children, 37, 34, 17, 15, 14. The last three were adopted. If you remember, my parents cared for foster babies and always had one and more often two at a time. Well, Gary and I started taking care of foster babies when Becky and Chris grew up and left home. So that is how we started a brand new family when I was 45 and he was 50 and we had three children under 3 years old. So add to that 3 grandchildren and the hope for a new crop of grandchildren when our teenagers start their families. And that is pretty much how I have spent the past 4 decades.

Well, hope you know that you were very important to me because of your kindness and I did want to thank you for your part in making my first romance a sweet and lovely memory.

Comments: I spent many a happy hour at the Juanita Grange in the mid fifties.  Halcyon days, my friend.  I'd love to be able to sneak back to 1955
once a week on Saturday night in the Yakima Valley.  Wages were $1.25 an hour, but Gas was only 25 cents a gallon. You could buy five hamburgers for a dollar at some of the drive through places.  Rent on a two bedroom with a double size lot was $35-$50 a month.  A greyhound bus ride from Grandview to Sunnyside was 25 cents.  A different world. And it was a better one.

Comments: I went to The Bummer just about every weekend while it was there. It wasn't too far from where I lived so I could walk. It was awesome! The strobe lights were so good... it was surreal. I saw many great groups there... Moby Grape, The Seeds, The Turtles, City Zu, Don & The Goodtimes, The Pied Pipers, etc. I remember they often had a cover charge deal where the ladies could get in for free if we brought an ice cube. Seriously. I use to bring a huge bag of ice cubes wrapped up in newspapers and hand them out to my girlfriends. I wish I had some photos to share. But all I have are great memories of good times and dancing until I couldn't move anymore. I drank a bunch of that 25 cent soda. I think I remember The Wailers and The West Coast Natural Gass Co. playing there too. And I know I saw Paul Revere & The Raiders there. They were great friends with Pat O'Day. Those sure were good days. It was a real bummer when The Bummer closed.

Don't know if the previous message I was working on went through. When working on it it just dissappeared. So I will start again . . . anyway, just wanted to say sorry for not regularly keeping in touch with you guys . . . hope you're not upset about it. I've been thinking about you guys recently (again), especially each time I open the beautiful leather bound Bible you gave me in '92. Hope you all are doing well . . . you look good. Looks like you've lost weight. Hopefully your health is doing well also. Josta and I moved to Colorado (snow country) at the end of July, 2010. I've retired and the cost of living (on social security) in Hawaii is just too high. We live at the foothills of the Rockies, about 8,300 feet and are enjoying our new environment. I found your site by just typing in your name. Computers!! Amazing and scary, but happy to be able to find you again. I'm glad to see you're still playing music. I "plugged" in our e-mail address on this site (guest page), in case you are able to drop us a note. I trully hope that God has found favor with you guys and is blessing the "socks" off of you both :)

Comments: I had the good fortune to hang around the band and learned a lot of guitar from Steve. They were a big influence on my interest in rock and roll. Those guys could really lay it down and get the crowd going! I was in HS band with the drummer Larry Plummer. Great guys, great band, great memories.

Comments: In Memory of my brother Danny Neil Burrows. He was my hero and my inspiration to get into this music thing. My brother could play any style anytime on his instrument. I learned so many things on the guitar from him. He was the biggest goofball with his practical jokes and I will always remember him buying my first Les Paul for me when I was a little kid. I miss him everyday. One of the best guitarists I have ever heard.
